Celebrating World Day of Sick February 11 ~ 5:00 p.m. Mass:
St. John Paul instituted the World Day of the Sick many years ago. It is an opportunity to pray and share, to sacrifice one's suffering for the welfare of the church and urge everyone to see the face of Christ in his or her ailing brother or sister. In our Parish, we will have a special mass that day at 5:00 p.m. with Anointing of Sick afterwards.
May Jesus the Christ fill us with Hope,
Peace and Healing of body, mind and spirit. Amen.

PASTOR'S NOTE:
The World Day of Sick is celebrated on February 11th on the Memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes. In Lourdes in France an apparition of Mary appeared to a young girl, Bernadette Soubirous, which lasted from February 11th to July 16th 1858. There were 18 apparitions during that period of time. During the apparitions, a little creek with healing water appeared below the rock where Mary stood. Until this day, people journey there and drink this water and take containers of it with them praying for the gift of healing which is sometimes granted by the grace of God. At the Shrine of Mary in Belleville, a grotto was built that imitates the original place in France where the apparition took place. When John Paul the Second established the day of sick on February 11th "he did not want it to be a mere “external” celebration, but to have an “internal” effect, forming the hearts of all to see the inherent dignity of every human person." It was his intention to “humanize” medicine, reflecting the physical and spiritual aspects of it. He wanted people to see a human being in every suffering person. He said that: " love for the suffering person is the sign and measure of the degree of civilization and progress of a people." As a result, if we want to truly celebrate this day, we need to meditate on how we can treat others with authentic human dignity, and how that can transform the realm of healthcare. ~ Fr. Slawomir Ptak ~
