Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan and is no longer under the resurgence mitigation tiers. Currently, under Phase 4 the following applies regarding Mass and social gatherings outside of worship:
1. The celebration of daily or Sunday Masses still follows the metric of 20% of capacity or 100 people, whichever is less, and follows the established diocesan COVID-19 safety guidelines—social distancing, wearing masks, sanitizing, disinfecting, etc.
2. Weddings and funerals in the context of Mass also still follow the metric of 20% of capacity or 100 people, whichever is less, and follows established diocesan COVID-19 safety guidelines. No congregating indoors. No more than 50 should congregate outdoors and they should social distance and wear masks, even outdoors.
3. The gathering limit of funeral vigils or wakes at the church is now 50 or less. However, everyone must wear masks and those not living together should maintain social distance.
4. Regions in Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan allows a gathering limit of 50 or fewer. Those gathered must social distance and wear masks. You will need to determine how many your parish hall can accommodate with everyone social distancing at 6 ft. apart in all directions. If you can accommodate 50 social distanced, then 50 could gather in the hall. Disinfect after events. With Mass or any event being held, we ask that people remain home if they feel ill, have symptoms or a temperature, etc.
5. The limit of 50 guests applies to social gatherings at the parish--organizational meetings, receptions, funeral brunches, bingo, dinners, etc. Follow safety guidelines—wear masks, social distance, disinfect, etc. If food and beverages are served, do not offer buffet-style or potluck meals or food prepared in the homes of others, unless the person making the food items has a food safety certification from IDPH. Items should be catered or provided in single-serve or disposable containers. Items should not be left out in the open uncovered with multiple people accessing them such as bowls of snacks, food trays, etc. Those not living together should be seated six feet or more apart. Staff or volunteers serving food should wash hands frequently and wear disposable gloves and face coverings.
